The banana is considered an auspicious fruit in Hindu traditions and is often used in religious rituals, offerings, and temple decorations. It symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and longevity. Both the fruit and the banana plant hold sacred value—banana leaves are used as natural plates for serving prasad, as decorative backdrops in puja setups, and for tying at the entrance during festivals and weddings.
In many rituals, a pair of whole banana plants is placed on either side of the mandap or temple entrance to invite divine blessings. The fruit itself is offered to deities like Lord Vishnu, Lord Ganesha, and Goddess Lakshmi as part of naivedya (food offering).
